We name things badly and build them well.
Giggle My Onion is an independent app studio. The name is a joke that stuck; the apps are not.
The app we wanted didn't exist
Every project here starts the same way: someone goes looking for an app to do something ordinary, finds twelve of them, and finds all twelve want an account and a subscription before they will do anything at all.
So we build the version we wanted. It keeps your collection on your device, it doesn't ask you to make an account, and it does the one job properly instead of six jobs badly.
That's a slower way to work. It also means we can explain every decision in an app, because someone here made it deliberately.
-
The idea
Find the gap
Usually by being annoyed at something. If an app already does it well, we don't build it.
-
The content
Say what it is
For a plant app that means an entry for each kind of plant, not one set of care for its whole group. Those care details are estimates, and we call them that. So does the app.
-
The build
One app, both phones
We build both versions together, so iPhone and Android get the same features on the same day.
-
The release
Ship it finished
No early access, no testing period that never ends. It goes out when it does what it says.
How we handle your data
-
No ads
Not banners, not interstitials, not a "watch a video to unlock" screen. Ever.
-
We do use analytics and crash reporting
When an app crashes it sends us a report, and we collect basic figures on which parts of the app people use. With no support desk, that is often how we find out something is broken at all.
-
No mandatory account
Install the app, use the app. If a feature genuinely needs a server one day, it'll be optional and it'll be obvious.
-
No hostage-taking
Your collection lives on your device. It doesn't disappear if you stop paying, and it isn't held behind a subscription.
Say hello
Bug reports, feature ideas, or just to tell us the studio name is ridiculous — all welcome.
